Camp Cameron

A self-hosted music pipeline. It finds a song, gets it from a source you’ve connected, checks by ear that it’s the live or studio recording you asked for, tags it properly and files it into your library. It runs on a small box at home; nothing faces the internet.

FIG. 1 · RECORDING AS A RING16 MEASUREMENTS · ONE SONG
verdictstudionet +11.2

One song wrapped into a circle. Time runs clockwise from the seam at the top; pitch runs outward. Applause lives at the head and tail, so a live take flares where the ends meet. Each of the 16 spokes is one measurement, and every one of them moves.

What it listens for

Sixteen measurements, taken the way an engineer would

None of them is decisive on its own. Each bar shows where the studio take (teal) and the live take (amber) sit on that scale; the one you’ve selected above is drawn solid.

How it decides

Each measurement pushes the score a little toward live or toward studio, and the pushes add up. Because it’s a plain sum, the reason for every verdict is exact: you can read off which measurements carried it.

Judged on bands it has never heard

It’s tested with whole artists held out, so every score comes from music the model never trained on. When the evidence is thin it answers uncertain instead of guessing — about one track in ten — and those wait for a person.

The live examples come from a handful of artists, so we read the accuracy numbers as optimistic until it has heard more rooms.

The pipeline

From a request to your library

Nine steps, each one recorded so you can watch it happen. Listening comes before filing, never after.

    Sources and servers

    Pluggable at both ends

It doesn’t care where a recording comes from, only whether it’s the one you asked for. Sources are connectors you plug in; some exist, more are planned. What comes out lands in the server you already run.

    The console

A control surface for your phone

One small page, reachable only from your own devices. Ask for a song from the sofa and watch it arrive.

queueRequest a song and see each step tick by, with a clock that tells working from stuck.
classifierReview its calls, with the measurements that carried each one. Your correction is kept, and nothing rescans it away.
undoFiled something wrong? One tap moves it back to staging.

    Built to be left alone

It runs in a cupboard and stays out of the way

    Checks before it files

Nothing reaches your library until the audio agrees with what you asked for. It never overwrites a file, and every filing can be undone.

    Backs itself up

A backup every day, with a copy kept off the box. The console says so if the off-site copy falls behind.

Tells you when it needs you

Your phone hears about a failed job, a track held for review, or a worker gone quiet. Nothing else.

    Keeps itself current

It updates its own parts on restart and restarts daily, so it doesn’t quietly fall behind.
